About UC
We were founded in 2002 as Forest View Campus Ministry, a student organization at Kansas University. During our first year as an active student organization, we observed the importance of being a church to the Kansas University community. This includes a Campus Ministry Center located adjacent to the University. The Ministry Center provides high-speed wireless internet access, coffee, study areas, laundry facilities, and residential areas for students at Kansas University.
Values
We value authenticity.
We value community.
We value conscientious lifestyles.
We value embodying Christ.
Vision
Being an authentic, conscientious, community embodying Christ.
Mission
Be Christ and his Church at Kansas University and in Lawrence, Kansas through relevant and meaningful interactions with one another and God - spiritually, emotionally, physically, and intellectually.
As an expression of both the ancient and current Christian church, we have these common elements: Worship, Community, Discipleship, Service, and Evangelism.
This is how these elements manifest themselves in our local culture:
Worship: Worship, Prayer and Celebration. This includes Weekly Worship and Spiritual Retreats
Community: Building Relationships, Campus Ministry and Family Ministry. This includes the Campus Ministry Center, Life Groups, and Phat Thursday
Discipleship and Accountability: This includes Leadership Training, Mentoring, and Bible Studies
Service: Community Service. This includes serving the individuals and business on Massachusetts Street, the Lawrence Interfaith Nutritional Kitchen, and Holiday Sponsorship of those in need
Evangelism: Telling the Story. This occurs all over as a result of living out the gospel, but we have an affinity for Wescoe Beach (on KU’s campus) and the bar scene in Lawrence
Location
The city of Lawrence, located in Douglas County in northeast Kansas, is a fast-growing, multi-cultural college town and an increasingly popular bedroom community for commuters. Lawrence has a well-earned reputation as a vibrant hub for entertainment and the arts.
Denominational affiliation
For those who are interested, the denomination with which we are affiliated is The Church of the Nazarene. More information on this denomination may be obtained through their website: www.nazarene.org. Or, you may contact us directly. Suffice it to say there are no bizarre antics. What you will find are caring people with the same issues, questions, and concerns that you have about life, God, and religion. |
