The Door:

Worship:
We offer weekly worship experiences for people who are comfortable with symbolism, "God Talk", sacrament, and fellowship. While we would never exclude anyone from these, we will especially invite the new Christians to begin participating in these worship events. These worship services will include worship songs, biblical preaching, multimedia elements, Eucharist, fellowship, and age-appropriate classes for children. Worship takes place every Sunday in Danforth Chapel on the University of Kansas campus.
Phat Tuesday:
Free food, fun, friends. Every Tuesday from 6:30 - 7:30PM join us for dinner at the Heston's. Come as early as you would like - stay as late as you would like. Visit our Meeting Times page for more details.
Attraction Events:
We are using the University's regular events to reach out to the community. At "Hawk Week" (KU's version of new student orientation) we had personal contact with several thousand students. We distributed 500 Frisbees with our logo on one side and a contemporary gospel presentation on the other. Over 400 of these students gave us their name and contact information. Another example is Homecoming. We plan to participate in the parade and distribute mementos that contain a gospel message in a creative way.
ex-Church:
This is experimental church -- one of our more innovative ideas. It is our primary method for becoming acquainted with the secular students on the campus. It is weekly church for the secular. It is probably more accurately a weekly "show" as opposed to worship. This show will include "positive" music from the radio put together in a thematic format. This is where we introduce the concept of "God Talk" to the secular soul.
Peer2Peer mentoring:
Student peers will be responsible for continually connecting with and mentoring other students who attend Xstream Unleashed. This entire relationship is what we refer to as Peer2Peer. They will drop-off a plate of homemade cookies (baked at our Campus Ministry Center).
1:1:1 mentoring:
Think of this as a one-on-one (1:1) mentoring relationship that includes God, thus the addition of a third "1". This is our program to both mentor student leaders, and to help those students that would like additional support. Each potential leader or student seeking support will be in a same-sex mentoring relationship with one of our core group sponsors.
Crews:
Meetings held in dorms, fraternities, sororities, apartments, restaurants and/or houses all around the University. We will have student mentors responsible for conducting weekly "encounters" with the folks who have been to the entry event and other events. I hesitate to call them "Bible Studies" as the primary reason to get together may not be to study the Bible.
Service Events:
We will have one group service project per semester. We will also encourage those who attend our "Connection & Direction" event to participate in one additional formal act of service per semester.
Youth In Mission (YIM):
We are considering partnering with MidAmerica Nazarene University in their summer YIM projects. This would give both the KU and MNU students a chance to meet students from another university while working together to further the kingdom.
Alternative Spring Break:
We are working to offer (possibly in connection with other ministry groups) an Alternative Spring Break for those who would like to celebrate their Break in a Christian atmosphere. This could also include a service opportunity.
Biweekly e-newsletter:
Inside of each newsletter we include inspirational thoughts tied to the previous and subsequent weeks' events. They also tell the students how to get more involved in our organization and what faith development and service opportunities we are planning for them.
Holiday Events:
These will be events for the students remaining on-campus during the traditional holiday breaks: Thanksgiving; Christmas and New Years (both occur during the semester break); and Easter (Spring Break). We will advertise these events after the bulk of the students have left campus for the holiday breaks. We will have many of the events in our Campus Ministry Center - Xstream Center. This will offer the students some "home away from home". In addition, it will help break down barriers between them and the church.
